Better later than never, the Sony Ericsson PlayNow arena will soon offer app downloads, so you can shovel third party programs on to your phone from one centralized resource. Just like the iPhone App Store. Or the Android Market. Or BlackBerry App World. Or Ovi Store. Do you see where we’re going with this? Read on for what to expect.
It’s been a busy week for Sony Ericsson: after some swish touchscreen phones last week and healthy green ones today, Sony Ericsson has just announced it’s teaming up with GetJar to offer 45,000 free mobile apps to download through the Sony Ericsson PlayNow Arena.

The apps on shelf will stretch across multiple Sony Ericsson OSs, and will include premium content from Sony Ericsson too. Third-party devs looking to make a buck will be able to blitz out their own Java ME and Symbian apps too. Sony Ericsson opens the doors for developer submissions for PlayNow arena from 1 July onwards, but we may hear when launch is before then.
