INQ is planning to launch two new phones this year, including the ‘Twitter phone‘ that integrates with the minimalist social networking site.
INQ has had some success with its ‘Facebook phone’, the INQ1, and has decided to launch two new handsets this year, at least one of which will continue the social networking integration by latching on to Twitter.
Using Twitter from your mobile is a bit of a mixed bag – higher-end smartphones (iPhone, Android, etc.) have a number of Twitter apps that do the job, but lower-spec phones must make do with posting and receiving direct message updates via SMS. The new INQ ‘twitter phone’ will be able to received the 140 character messages directly – almost like an internet based SMS service.
“This can really help open up and drive Twitter use on mobile when usage becomes part of your data package like on the PC,” said INQ chief exec Frank Meehan.
INQ’s second new phone this year is an unknown quantity, but if we had to guess we would say it is likely to have some kind of social networking integration. Maybe the time is right for a Linked In phone for the freelance market.
