Microsoft has finally revealed the release date for Windows 7, and there’s good news for PC fans: it’s actually coming a little earlier than expected.
The operating system was originally planned for an early 2010 launch, but Microsoft’s code monkeys are so far ahead of schedule that it will now debut on 22nd October. Microsoft’s shareholders will definitely be pleased, as this means Windows 7 will be out in plenty of time for Christmas.
Microsoft also revealed that Windows 7 code will be sent out to PC makers as early as the end of July, in order for it to be pre-loaded onto new machines.
And if you’re thinking of buying a new PC before 22nd October but don’t fancy getting stuck with Windows Vista, don’t fret – Microsoft has confirmed that people who buy machines with “certain versions of Vista” before this date will be able to upgrade to Windows 7 free of charge. The details on this offer are a little sketchy, but we’ll bring you more when everything’s finalised.
