pixeljunk_monsters_pspPixelJunk Monsters is getting a dedicated PSP incarnation in the form of PixelJunk Monster Deluxe. Anyone who played the original on PS3 will find it pretty recognisable, as it contains all the levels from PixelJunk Monsters and its expansion, Encore. Sony’s showing off the game on its brand new PSP Go console at E3, and it’s looking very fine indeed. Read on for more details:

If you’ve missed out on PixelJunk Monsters, it’s definitely a game we recommend you take a look at. It’s a tower defence where your character is tasked with defending the population of their village from woodland nasties. To that end you build special defence fortifications from the surrounding trees; your choice of tower will have different impacts on different enemy types. Be warned, it sounds simple, but soon gets devilishly tricky.

The dedicated PSP version looks like it’s losing nothing in its transition from home console to handheld, bar the ability to play two-player coop on the same system. Even so, you’ll still be able to team up wirelessly – either locally or online – and have raging shouting matches about the other person’s constant refusal to stay put an upgrade their towers. Or at least that’s what usually happens to us.

In addition, the PSP version comes with a couple of new tower and enemy types, new music and a series of Medal challenges. As in Trophies, but PSP Trophies don’t exist. Yet.

Pixel Junk Monsters Deluxe is due out this autumn.

This is a definite purchase for me, I LOVE the PS3 version, it’s kept me addicted for over a year… Not bad for a fiver….

The PSP just got a major shot in the arm.

    Gran Turismo PSP
    Metal Gear Solid PSP
    Resident EviL PSP
    Pixel Junk Monsters PSP.

Don’t think anyone can really argue with that taster of the PSP game lineup…
