Spotify logoThe legitimacy of free music streaming service du jour Spotify had been in some doubt, but now it seems that the Performing Rights Society have decreed it totally legal. Read on for the details.

According to SamKnows, the Performing Rights Society (or PRS) and Spotify have successfully reached an agreement over artist payments. That means both sides are happy about the payments that will be made to music writers, performers and publishers.

It was revealed a few days ago that from 1st July, the PRS will be reducing the cost for the streaming of an individual track from 0.22p to 0.085p. However, the PRS and YouTube are still trying to reach a deal over payments for music videos – and until they do so we won’t see a return for all those promo clips recently pulled from the video site.
