Here are the two words that every Nintendo fan wanted to hear during the E3 press conference: New Zelda. Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t say them… but Shigeru Miyamoto did! The father of Mario and Zelda told an invite-only developer event that he hoped a new Zelda would be announced next year.
Why would the confirmation of a new Zelda be relegated to a backroom conference, especially after criticism levelled at Nintendo for not releasing enough games for its ‘core fan base? Well, because the game is really not very far advanced, that’s why. In fact Miyamoto only had single bit of new Zelda concept art to show off (which was not allowed to be photographed).
The concept drawing showed a more mature looking Link and an anonymous female dressed in blue.
Other details let slip are that new Zelda could be a Wii Motion Plus exclusive, and Miyamoto hopes to announce it formally sometime next year. A 2010 release date is also possible, by the legendary game designer refused to put a firm window on it. For now, new Zelda’s development will continue behind closed doors.
