The Wii Vitality Sensor hooks up to the Wii remote... and your fingertip

Wanna feel better about yourself? Then stuff your finger in a Wii Vitality Sensor and let the clever console figure out what’s ailing you. At least, that’s what Nintendo reckons you should do. Us? We think you should see a doctor. But not before you’ve seen these official photos of the Wii Vitality Sensor in action!

The Wii Vitality Sensor is an oddity at E3. After Nintendo said it was going to stem the flow of accessories, here it comes anyway, another dongle to latch onto the end of your Wii controller.

The Wii Vitality Sensor itself is nothing but a glorified heart rate monitor, plugging into the same socket as a Wii Nunchuck controller would. Slip in a digit and Nintendo’s console can ‘read’ your vital signs.

All a bit spooky, but the Big N says the Wii Vitality Sensor is a “groundbreaking product” that “expands the appeal of video games.”

Described as a “glimpse of the future” Nintendo hasn’t set a release date for the Wii Vitality Sensor, but promises it’ll detect “a number of other signals being transmitted” from gamers’ bodies, not just pulse. What else is there? Smell? Sex appeal? Guess we’ll have to wait and see. For now, get a gawp at the Wii Vitality Sensor in these official photos.
