Microsoft Xbox 360 Project Natal sensor

UPDATE: Want a more eye-popping (and mind-blowing) demo of what Xbox Project Natal can do? See it in action in Lionhead’s groundbreaking Mylo.

We’ve told you all about Microsoft’s Xbox Project Natal, but as well as seeing us froth in word-form we thought you’d like to see Project Natal in action. Continue reading, and you’ll see Microsoft’s concept video showing the device off in all it’s glory.

The video, Microsoft is keen to point out, is partly the work of fiction. It’s a concept video, and an indicator of where it wants to take Project Natal. But the good news is it’s not far off. The version shown working at E3 is very close to this already, despite being just months old.

Enough waffling, for that you can read our first impressions following today’s E3 presentation of Project Natal. Instead, take a peep at the video. We think you’ll be impressed.

FTW now stands for F**k the Wii

  3. I’m not normally one to froth over “concept” vids, but when Microsoft showed this working on stage my jaw hit the floor.

  4. Poppa_P says:

The video seems to polished and setup,I will believe it when I see it for real..

  5. bobolox says:

If they pull this off it will be BIG.

Nintendo must be well annoyed, they have gotta come up with something quick.

And its not even just about the gaming, the ease of use when navigating menus and such is superb

  6. Ben Sillis says:

I know they’re not real, but one of those games looks like Barney the Dinosaur crossed with Rampage! I need that in my life, now.

  7. ManicMiner says:

    Turns out they faked this.

I hope the media string them up for this, in the same way they strung Sony up for the E3 Killzone2 pre-render.

  8. Sam Kieldsen says:

ManicMiner, I think you’re reaching a bit there.
Nowhere in that Kotaku story does it say that Lionhead faked this. It says there was an engineer present but merely speculates that he could have been manipulating things.
That said, we all know how Molyneux can get when it comes to hyping things up… remember Black & White?

  9. ManicMiner says:

I think people are pretty naive if they really think what they saw at Microsoft E3 demo was real.

Microsoft only recently acquired the technology, there is no way Molyneuxs team could have something like that running and reacting like that in such a short term.

A suspicious bloke out the back watching whats going on on stage, and messing with stuff at the same time… Come on, most of us are not idiots and can see whats going on here…

  10. Sam Kieldsen says:

I guess the bottom line is, we’re going to have to wait until the tech is actually real and launched to see how well it works and how accurate MS’s demo was.

  11. ManicMiner says:

Hmm, seems those that seen it behind closed doors, with the smoke and mirrors removed, are less than impressed.

A much-hyped software package that uses the Project Natal hardware, Milo was presented as a virtual on-screen boy who could recognize you and carry on an intelligent conversation. The demo video was impressive, but obviously shot in a tightly controlled environment with clearly scripted responses. Talking to several people who got a chance to try out talking to Milo in person behind closed doors, the responses were uniformly disappointed
