UPDATE: The Sony PSP Go is official, and it’s out 1 October.
The Sony PSP Go, Sony’s next PSP handheld games box, has just been leaked ahead of E3 this week. It looks like that whistleblower on the inside was spot on the mark: read to find out all the specs for Sony’s spectacular slide-out!
There have been plenty of whispers about a new PSP Go for some time, but the clouds of murmurs have started to take shape recently with a device that’s not actually intended to be a sequel to the current Sony PSP 3000: the Sony PSP Go. Those leaks coming through the grapevine have just be confirmed though, with official press shots and videos leaking online ahead of the Sony keynote tomorrow.
Specs-wise, the screen size on the PSP Go is actually taking a hit, dropping from 4.3 inches on the PSP down to 3.8 inches. But the big news is that the UMD drive, as expected, has gone the way of the Sega Saturn. In its place you’ll find 16GB of internal storage in the Sony PSP Go, plus Bluetooth and a Memory Stick Micro slot.
There’s full PlayStation Network support with video rentals and purchases, the same PS3 integration as the PSP 3000, and new Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet and, get this, Metal Gear Solid games are on the way for the Sony PSP Go.
Sony’s press conference kicks off tomorrow at 7pm UK time, so be sure to tune in from then for coverage of the official Sony PSP Go unveiling and much, much more. In the meantime, check out the leaked video with all the details below.
