As well as showing off the LG Viewty Smart this morning, LG has dropped a few subtle hints at what the next Viewty handset will bring. We’re dubbing it the Viewty HD, since we’re led to believe it’ll pack in high resolution video recording, and more megapixels than you can shake a zoom lens at.
Speaking as LG showed off the Viewty Smart, LG Mobile’s head of marketing for the UK, Jeremy Newing, let slip that the 8 megapixel sensor inside the Viewty Smart is far from the end of the line for the Viewty family.
“We’re aware of a couple of 12 megapixel models, and we’re not too far off, but we want to build on our value proposition,” he explained. “It’s not too long [to wait] before our larger megapixel products are announced, but this will fill a nice niche, rather than trying to get £40 to £50 out of each customer.”
On the subject of video recording, Newing gave a strong hint that LG’s next Viewty handset will be able to record in high definition. “This model is DVD quality,” he said. “But other handsets in the range will take that to the next level.”
Newing also claimed that the Viewty marque is setting new standards in cameraphone specifications: “A three inch screen is an absolute minimum, and GPS, Geotagging and auto-rotation are also becoming a pre-requisite.”
Sounds like LG’s looking for new features to differentiate further Viewty models, and HD video could be next on the list. Stay tuned, we’ll bring you more on the mythical Viewty HD as soon as we hear it.
