Oh my. Rap and music games have finally come together with the announcement of console karaoke-er Def Jam Rapstar, and rappers Eminem and Jay-Z now backing DJ Hero. E3 is going to be very, very noisy this year.
It had to happen, didn’t it? Def Jam Rapstar is the logical progression from SingStar, letting you indulge in a bit of lyrical gangsterism and macho posing in the comfort of your own home. Def Jam Rapstar is the first title from 4mm Games, formed by Rockstar founders, and it’s set to be fully unveiled at E3 next week. Not much is known about the game, although it won’t just feature songs from the record label of the same name.
That’s not all though. In other hip-hop-gaming news, Activision’s eagerly awaited DJ Hero is being endorsed by Eminem and Jay-Z. A limited edition version of DJ Hero is now on the cards, bundling in both Marshall Mathers’ and Hova’s greatest hits CDs, plus a new version of the DJ Hero controller, stand and metal traveling case. Both artists’ tracks will feature in DJ Hero of course, but are yet to be confirmed.
You can see the teaser trailer for Def Jam Rapstar below, but expect a lowrider worth of details next week. Word.
