The Polaroid Two (previously known as the Polaroid PoGo Camera and first sighted in January) has fallen into our hands. Five megapixel camera you say? Bit tubby around the edges. What’s all the fuss about? Well, dear gadgeteer, this is the first digital camera to print snaps from the palm of your hands. Just like, well, a Polaroid camera. Read on for our first impressions.
On the outside, the Polaroid Two is a beast. It’s fat, fairly plain looking and packing more buttons than a coat factory. But fire it up and you’ll find it’s fast, fun and actually pretty neat.
Menus fly by at supersonic speed, and it’s no slough taking snaps either. Sure, the quality’s not fantastic, and at five megapixels with no autofocus you’re not going to be showing the results at an art gallery any time soon, but that’s not the point. The Polaroid Two is a fun camera with a unique ability, able to reel off a physical print of your handiwork in less than a minute.
What’s more, the prints from a Polaroid Two can be stuck to surfaces too, once you’ve peeled off their protective backing.
Just like Polaroid prints from the 80s, the produce of the Polaroid Two is touch dry as soon as it emerges from the camera, and colour reproduction’s reasonable too. You can add frames, crop images and even remove red-eye in the camera itself, which can also hold ten sheets of ZINK (that’s Zero Ink to you) paper.
Sure, it’s not going to win any awards on the quality, style or portability stakes. It also lacks some of the whizzy features of its rivals (we’re thinking of face detection, smile detection and yes, even autofocus), but there’s still a certain charm about the Polaroid Two. Unfortunately, it’s marred by a stonking great price tag.
Is the Polaroid Two fun? Absolutely. Is it value for money? Absolutely not, but then that’s not the point. Feast your eyes on our Polaroid Two gallery above, and we think you’ll see what we mean.
