The LG Crystal is the first phone in the world with a transparent keypad

UPDATE: The LG GD900 Crystal will be available from 1 July at the Carphone Warehouse. Act fast to claim dibs on yours!

We came. We saw. We touched. We’ve given the LG Crystal a frightfully good mauling, and snapped a ton of pictures while we were at it. Want a close-up look at the first phone to feature a see-through keypad, and accept handwriting input? You’ve come to the right place.

The LG Crystal is good looking, there’s no doubt about it. But the light-up transparent keypad is just half the story. Up front it looks a lot like the LG Arena, and round the back it’s glossy as you like.

Inside there’s LG’s newest S-Class operating system, a proper full HTML web browser and an 8 megapixel camera. If we didn’t know better, we’d say the LG Crystal was gunning for the more tech-savvy end of the fashion market.

And it’s clever too. As well as tapping the see through number pad to enter, well, numbers, you can swish a finger around to write letters and make gestures. The LG Crystal applies different gestures to different functions, and it’s completely customisable. Write an “M” and the LG Crystal can take you straight to Media, or Messaging… or maybe call your Mum.

But enough babbling about it’s touchy abilities, built-in Wi-Fi and camera. Get a good eyefull of the LG Crystal in our photo galleries!
