The Zune HD has just been made official, and it’s an OLED touchscreen PMP here to take on the iPod touch. Looks like those sources got the name right, but what else did they hit the target on? Read on to find out!
The net’s been abuzz with rumours of a Zune HD for the past month, but Microsoft just pulled the trigger and confirmed it. The Zune HD will have a 3.3 inch, 480×272 OLED screen (Similar to the Sony X Series Walkman), multitouch baked in and 720p HD video out to a TV. The Zune HD will also pack Wi-Fi and a browser based on Internet Explorer, and HD radio (No DAB for us Brits sadly).
Sadly there aren’t any more details just yet, but Microsoft says more will be coming at E3, and – hang on, E3? What’s the Zune HD doing at a games show? Turns out Microsoft is bringing the Zune store to Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace. Will this mean the Xbox LIVE game support we’ve heard whispers about? We won’t have to wait long to find out.
The Zune content on Xbox LIVE will be launching internationally in the Autumn, so it looks like we’ll be getting some Zune goodness of sorts at last. Unfortunately, Microsoft says there are no plans at the moment to bring the Zune HD to Europe when it ships to the US at the same time, but did you expect anything different? C’mon Ballmer, sort it out.
