Bored of using your Nike+iPod just to chart your tracks while jogging? Get a soldering iron out and have a go at this hack to turn the trainer tracker into an iFOB, which unlocks your car door for you as you approach.
Key fobs are all good and well, but you still have to press a button to unlock, and that’s a serious burden – at lelast the Nike+iPod iFOB is more fun, at any rate. RFID fiddler Nate has hacked a Nike+iPod footpod into a device that triggers your car door when you walk up to it. It’s a little bit complicated, but there are step by step instructions right here.
There are a few drawbacks to the Nike+iPod iFOB: with a range of 50 feet, you’ll have to sabotage your car’s antenna so that walking around your house doesn’t unlock your motor outside, and you’ll still have to use the actual keys to turn on the engine. But just imagine being able to use this Nike+iPod hack with the iPhone ignition app we saw earlier this year. We can’t wait for the day.
