Sony VAIO PThe Sony VAIO P just got an upgrade, with Sony boosting processor speed, squeezing in a bigger solid state drive and – this is the biggie – binning Windows Vista for trusty XP.

One of our biggest gripes with the Sony VAIO P when it launched earlier this year was Sony inexplicably piling bulky, bloated Windows Vista on to the ultra portable computer. Now though, Sony’s finally seen the light, unveiling a new version with improved specs and an older, but better OS in the Sony VAIO P50.

Sony VAIO P hands-on

From 6 June, Sony Japan will start selling the new Sony VAIO P model with Windows XP as standard, as well as new hardware options including a 2GHz Atom Z550 processor and a huge and speedy 256GB SSD.

Of course, Sony VAIO P specs vary worldwide so we don’t know for sure yet whether these new options will make it over to the UK, but given that we got a better version of the Sony VAIO P than the US first time around, fingers crossed we’ll be seeing this bump over here soon.

Laughable that even now, people are still dumping Vista in favour of XP. Really shows what a turkey Vista was, and how much Microsoft have lost the plot in nearly all their product lines.
