Mass Effect 2 is set to have a big, ahem, Effect at next month’s E3 expo in LA. Next Month’s Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) has lots of juicy details about the RPG sequel and some of these have leaked on to gaming fan forum NeoGAF.
The Mass Effect 2 rumour that has been causing the most fuss is the one that suggested main character Shepherd would be killed off early on in the game, or even before the game – leaving you to pick a new central character for your adventure. OXM doesn’t completely refute this, but does suggest that you will play as Shepherd for at least some of the game – the rumour may be bunk, or perhaps there are some “tricksy is-he-or-isn’t-he?” shenanigans planned.
Your spaceship, the SSV Normandy, was pretty big the first time around but in Mass Effect 2 it will reportedly have a greatly expanded interior with more detail for you to explore. The Mako assault vehicle is retiring in favour of a new ground craft with a better control system and the inventory system wil get a complete revamp.
Story-wise, Mass Effect 2 is said to be bigger and ‘more impactful’ than the first episode, but essentially the story continues directly from episode one with the Reapers having a pop at human outposts. The Krogan homeworld makes an appearance this time around and there are plenty of new species to confuse you with their convoluted speech patterns and help/hinder your progress.
