Palm PreThe Palm Pre is believed to have been nabbed by O2 as an exclusive when the smartphone arrives on these shores later this year. Which brainbox blower you choose is still up in the air, but it looks like the network is already settled, right iPhone?

The Palm Pre, Palm’s answer to the iPhone and BlackBerry all rolled into one, is coming out in the US early next month, but don’t even think about getting your import on: even an unlocked one won’t work on a UK network. You’ll have to wait until Christmas, when O2 will be bringing a GSM flavoured Palm Pre to the table as an exclusive, just like the iPhone, for the Christmas rush, according to The Guardian.

O2 has refused to confirm the reports, but if it’s bagged the Palm Pre it looks like the network will have a very good Christmas indeed, especially with a new iPhone due out at some point this year, and it certainly leaves it well prepared to do battle with all the Android phones lining up for rivals.

There’s still no word on pricing, but with US cost coming in at $199 (£130) up front for a two year contract, don’t expect the Palm Pre to be too much cheaper than the iPhone. We should find out if it’ll be worth that price within weeks though.
