New PSP?The Sony PSP could be about to get game rental downloads to go with its TV and movies on demand. Could this be one in the i for DSiWare? Read on to find out how we know.

We’ve heard how a UMD-less Sony PSP Go could be on the cards for E3, but it appears Sony are prepping a game rental service to go with it. Earlier this week, a Sony questionnaire popped up online, asking about subscription prices for a theoretical game download service for the Sony PSP. Think Love-Film without the films or the snail mail and that’s what we could be looking at.

Not only that, but Develop is now reporting that Sony was briefing Sony PSP developers about a subscription rental service as far back as Games Developers Conference in March.

Sony has yet to confirm either a new Sony PSP or Sony PSP rental service, but with the recent download only experiment with Patapon 2, we’d be surprised if the company wasn’t working on something similar right now. Luckily with E3 around the corner, we shouldn’t have to wait long to find out now.

I’m sure it’s coming to PS3 too. If you look at ANY PSN download, in the Information screen, it’s got information on the DRM licence, and expiry (obviosuly everything is currently unlimited).

I like the prospect of paying a fixed amount every month, and have access to say 3 PSN titles at a time, and when I am done with one, I can release the licence and get something new.

Funny how many idiots mad such a big deal about “PS3 locking discs and not being able to trade in”, and now it turns out yet again, the PS3 comes up trumps and offers the best in content ownership flexability/options.
