The Orange Power Pump is a nifty way of keeping your mobile charged throughout festival season. Turn your sweat into electricity by pumping air through the portable generator from the comfort of your tent.
Orange want you to spend ages talking to your mates at Glastonbury this year, but they know they most people’s phones are unlikely to go the distance without some help. In previous years, festival goers have been able to charge their bikes from solar stations or pedal-powered generators, but there are always queues. What would be a cheap way of doing it yourself?
Enter the Orange Power Pump. Plugging into a standard pedal pump of the kind used to inflate an airbed, the Power Pump contains a spinning turbine generator that converts the blasts of pumped air into lovely ‘leccy for your phone. Orange reckon that “the turbine can generate enough energy to power five minutes of call time in the time it takes to inflate a pillow” although they don’t specify the size of that pillow.
The Orange Power Pump will be on show and – we assume – on sale at the Glastonbury Festival, which kicks off on 24 June. If it all seems too much like hard work, the Orange Chill ‘n’ Charge tent will be there too, offering eco-friendly charging and free internet access.
