Every LittleBigPlanet level created by the game’s fans will soon get its own URL. That means gamers would be able to more directly promote their levels, send them to friends etc. “Rather than saying, ‘Please search for my level,’ you can just say, ‘Here’s a link’,” said Alex Evans, co-founder of Media Molecule, the development studio behind LittleBigPlanet.
Evans, speaking to 1Up at the Nordic Games Conference, Malmö, confirmed that the URLs would also appear in a LittleBigPlanet web portal that would rank levels, queue up downloads of levels to your PS3, and let users add photos from levels and comments.
Most exciting for fans of the innovative LittleBigPlanet, a user-generated build-share-explore PS3 platform game, the LittleBigPlanet web portal would also offer an “application programming interface” (API) to let gamers create their own LittleBigPlanet-related programs, according to Evans. This would work in a similar way to mash-ups and apps created by fans for Flickr and Google Maps.
It’s clear that in LittleBigPlanet, Media Molecule have created for the Sony PS3 a game that will keep on giving and giving. And one of the few standout stars of the current console generation.
