Eee PC 1000HV: the first gaming Eee PCThe Eee PC 1000HV, Asus‘s first Eee PC designed for gaming, has just popped up for pre-order online. What’s the twist? It’s got discrete graphics, so you’ll be able to play 3D games at a canter, rather than a crawl.

Another day, another Eee. This time, the selling point isn’t a bigger battery, touchscreen or DVD drive though: the Eee PC 1000HV packs a 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 card, a genuinely useful upgrade for any applications which need a bit of graphical oomph. Like games, say.

Specswise, the Eee PC 1000HV still packs the standard 1.66GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and 160GB HDD combo, so don’t expect to be playing Crysis on it, but it’s a neat idea if you fancy a frag on the train or need to Photoshop on the fly, especially since the battery on the Eee PC 1000HV is good for 5 hours.

Before you cry foul, the Eee PC 1000HV isn’t the first gaming netbook Asus has released. That title goes to the Asus N10, which launched last year with NVIDIA GeForce 9300M graphics. Why the Eee PC 1000HV then? We’re not sure either, because at €449 (£400), it’s not any cheaper than the N10 either. Still, we’ve always got time for an Eee.
