Mobidaptor is such a simple idea you may wonder why you don’t already have one of these bundled with your phone. The little plastic dongle lets you back up your phone to a USB stick without all that tedious ‘needing a PC or Mac’ nonsense to get in the way.
Mobidaptor lets you get all the files on your mobile – pictures, movies, etc. – off onto a USB stick. To our knowledge there are no mobiles that will let you just plug a USB stick in the back, but there are plenty that take those fiddly little microSD cards that are so easy to lose.
Mobidaptor takes advantage of the ubiquity of the microSD slot – it is essentially a USB-to-microSD convertor. You stick one end in your phone’s microSD slot, and attach a USB drive to the otehr end. Voila – your phone thinks that the USB drive is a microSD card and you can copy files onto it using the phone’s built in file manager.
We can see one slight problem – most phones have rubbish internal storage so your microSD slot is probably going to be filled with a card containing all the stuff you would want to copy off – but judicous juggling of files can overcome this and as a way of copying stuff to and from your phone when away from a PC this is a simple, elegant solution.
