The Pentax K7 DSLR is official folks: pictures, specs and pricing are all out in the open at last. Is it a rival to the Nikon D5000 and Canon EOS 500D? Read on to find out!

Poor Pentax. We didn’t think it was possible to get a more leaky camera launch than Sony’s Alpha avalanche last week, but the Pentax K7 beans have been spilling everywhere this week.

Still, at least the Pentax K7 is shaping up to be a top DSLR. Pentax has unveiled the Pentax K7, confirming the DSLR packs a 14.6MP sensor, a 3 inch LCD screen, HDMI and 720p video recording skills we heard rumoured. The Pentax K7 goes one further though, offering HD video at a higher 1536×1024 at 30fps too, whereas the Nikon D5000 tops out at 720p and the Canon EOS 500D only stumbles through 1080p at half the frame rate.

Pricewise, the Pentax K7 will sell for $1,300 or £830, but don’t rule out a UK markup like we’ve seen on other new DSLRs recently.
