Carphone Warehouse is to launch its own app store. SnappLife will offer cross-platform apps and games for Symbian and Windows Mobile handsets.
Carphone Warehouse just couldn’t stand to be left out. It seems as though anyone with an internet connection is working on a mobile app store these days.
Carphone Warehouse’s attempt is called SnappLife and like O2 and Vodafone before it, CW aim to offer apps for several different phones and operating systems.
SnappLife has been developed for Carphone Warehouse by mobile app company HipLogic. It installs as an app itn its own right and runs as a sort of virtual app environment that ensures compatibility. Currently a range of Symbian handsets (several Nokias plus the Samsung INNOV8) are supported but there are plans to extend the service to Windows Mobile too.
“Consumers have spoken and it is clear that they want easy access to the web and apps on their mobile phones”, said HipLogic’s Mark Anderson.
