Spotify, the free music streaming service that’s sweeping the nation’s desktops, has shown off a new music recommendation engine that works just like the Genius function in iTunes.
Spotify is a fantastic way to graze on free music legitimately, but until now, it’s lacked the music recommendation power of the likes of Pandora and Last.fm. That could be about to change though, as Spotify has now teamed up with Echo Nest, which tips you off about tracks you might like based on what you’ve been listening to.
At the SanFran MusicTech event held yesterday, visitors were shown how Spotify integration wtih Echo Nest works to generate playlists, just like Genius in recent versions of Apple’s iTunes, and the reports have been overwhelmingly positive. Spotify is keeping schtum on when we’ll be seeing this feature made public, but we’re looking forward to digging up even more gems on the best new app in town.
