Ninja Gaiden 3 is in development, if hints from new Tecmo “Team Ninja” leader Yosuke Hayashi are to be believed. And, again according to Hayashi, Ninja Gaiden 3 will be coming to both the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360.
Hayashi has stepped into the shoes of the infamous Tomonobu Itagaki. Itagaki left Tecmo’s Team Ninja studio last year under a cloud, announcing he was suing the company over unpaid bonuses. Hayashi told Kikizo that Itagaki’s departure hasn’t dented Team Ninja’s ability to deliver games, saying: “It’s a team effort. I think that the DNA, or the essence of the foundation of Team Ninja has not changed at all.”
The upcoming Sony PS3 game Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is an upgrade of Ninja Gaiden II, previously a Microsoft Xbox 360 exclusive. Speaking on whether the extra Sigma 2 content would be ported back to the Microsoft Xbox 360, Hayashi gave a strong hint that instead, Team Ninja are already moving on to Ninja Gaiden 3: “Ninja Gaiden fans and actions gamers will probably be wanting more… We have to open up a new chapter. We’re going to have to push ourselves to the next level, and we are better off giving both audiences an entirely new game.”
In other words, no Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Black for Microsoft Xbox 360 gamers. But instead Ninja Gaiden 3 for both Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 fans – something which would have been far less likely under Itagaki’s pro-Xbox 360 tenure.
