Guitar Hero 5 has been announced, and its key innovation will be the ability to play any mix of four instruments in multi-player modes. Four drummers? Four singers? Four guitarists? Or any mix of guitarists, singers and bass and lead guitarists will apparently be possible (although whether you’ll be able to add a scratch DJ, or four, to your band line-up has yet to be revealed).

Beyond the mix-and-match band make-up of Guitar Hero 5, Activision has announced that players will be able to drop and out of each others’ games at any time, including during single-player career mode (if you turn the option on). On top of that, a new RockFest mode sees four players duelling head-to-head, with the song difficulty adjusting up and down automatically for each player.

Any previously downloaded content you’ve got from other Guitar Hero games will work in Guitar Hero 5. And new, in the box Guitar Hero 5 is set to include The Rolling Stone’s “Sympathy For The Devil”, Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” and 83 other tracks (over 30 artists appearing for the first time in a music game) from artists including The White Stripes, Johnny Cash and Vampire Weekend.

Know what? Because of Guitar Hero, I was inspired to play the real guitar, electric guitar to be exact. This has been my frustration and now I doing it. It’s one of the games I play now aside from World of Warcraft. It’s good to know that the new Guitar Hero 5 has the ability to play any mix of four instruments, I’m thinking of starting with drums. :P
