The Zune HD could be aiming squarely at the handheld gaming market, according to new sources armed with some seriously outlandish claims. Is it the Xbox portable we’ve always wanted?
Grab the salt cellar and take a seat, because if these rumours are true, the Zune HD will be looking to take a piece of the Sony PSP and Nintendo DSi portable gaming pie.
According to TeamXbox, the Zune HD will be similar to the iPod touch in offering games and media support: this being Microsoft though, that means support for Zune and Xbox Live on the Zune HD. The source claimed we’d also see the interface of the NXE on Xbox 360 on the Zune HD, and that Xbox Live Arcade games will run on it, as previously rumoured.
The source claims that the Zune HD will sport a WVGA touchscreen, although there’s no mention of OLED in the description, and TeamXbox goes on to speculate that WiMax is on the cards for connectivity. The source also said the Zune HD, codenamed “xYz”, was not a Zune phone, though that doesn’t rule out any of the rumours surrounding Project Pink we heard earlier this week.
So, plenty of gossip and specs to get your teeth in to there. Will it make people pause from buying a Nintendo DSi or Sony PSP just yet though?
