Tony Hawk: Ride will be the next Tony Hawk skateboarding game from Activision, the company has announced. More details on the game are expected at E3, the world’s largest videogame trade show, taking place in Los Angeles, in early June. But one thing is clear from the teaser website just launched: the hints from Activision that the game was to feature a new control method are true.
The Tony Hawk: Ride website specifically says that the game will be revealed 2 June at E3. And shows a black plastic or rubber skateboard peripheral, with buttons on one side (and presumably motion or balance-sensing technology inside).
It’s difficult to make out exactly which buttons are on the peripheral from the low resolution image so far revealed – but it looks like four traditional face buttons, a directional pad, start, select and possibly several other buttons at the other end of the board or a port. GameTrailers also has an HD trailer including gameplay footage of the game and board (briefly).
Presumably the cost of the peripheral will make Tony Hawk: Ride far more expensive than its main rival Skate. Can it revitalise the Tony Hawk series in the face of that? Time will tell…
