Google Chrome, the big G’s web browser, will soon be getting Google app alerts in the status bar, so you can tell at a glance when an email has dropped onto your inbox doormat.
Firefox is still leading the way with extensions and plug-ins, but Google Chrome is about to get a bunch of useful little add-ons. Google is currently testing a little Gmail and Google Reader ticker you can pop on the status bar, which will alert you to new emails and posts whenever you’re using Google Chrome.
This should be just the beginning, and we can’t wait for more extensions like this for Google Chrome: Google Calendar and Twitter plug-ins definitely wouldn’t go amiss. Lifehacker has instructions on how to test out the new app extensions on Google Chrome right now, but if you’re a Firefox user, you might want to try out Prism instead for similar effect in your system tray.
