The Sony PS3 Slim, a slimline redesigned version of the Sony PS3, is in production, if pictures from the manufacturing plant and posted on a Chinese message board, are to be believed.

Kotaku writers who picked up the story, and commenters on their post, have already called into question the veracity of these pictures. There are particularly doubts over Sony changing its logo for the PS3 in the middle of its lifetime. So the Sony PS3 Slim pictures could easily be fake.

That said, the picture of the Sony PS3 Slim packaging looks very realistic. And it was always slightly surprising that Sony wanted everyone to call their console the Sony PlayStation 3 when everyone was already calling it a PS3. And a slimline version of the massive and heavy PS3 is surely only a matter of time, after all.

Could a redesigned Sony PS3 Slim be on track to sit alongside a Sony Ericsson PSP phone and a redesigned Sony PSP Go!? Count it as rumour for now…
