Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, will feature “wide open” gameplay with “a lot of variety” according to Jason West, President, developer Infinity Ward. West was quoted in an extensive ten-page feature in the US magazine Game Informer, which reveals several other key new details regarding the hotly-anticipated Modern Warfare 2.

The plot of Modern Warfare 2 is set to a backdrop of continued Russian Federation instability. But the game sees you flung from Siberia to Afghanistan and the slums of Rio De Janeiro.

As to new gameplay, expect: chases on snowmobiles, a single-player experience that takes longer to complete than the original Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (with Infinity Ward “actively trying to eliminate” the endless respawning enemies that caused problems for sneakier players in the original Modern Warfare), riot shields, movable turrets, customisable weapons, more acrobatic player movements (you can now swim and climb ice ledges), and an entirely separate co-op mode featuring its own levels.

With the released gameplay footage looking so good, Modern Warfare 2 looks set to be one of the most exciting games of the year.

Fantastic! We’re starved of decent co-op gaming these days. If MW2 is half as good as the original Modern Warfare then this is a must have for me. I just hope the coop doesn’t get pulled at the last minute like so many other games recently.
