Red Steel 2 will drop support for the Nintendo Wii’s basic WiiMote controller and will require the Wii MotionPlus add-on, developers Ubisoft have confirmed.
Red Steel 2 is the sequel (obviously) Nintendo Wii launch title Red Steel. The original game was the first first-person shooter for the console and suffered a little from the – shall we say – less than 100% accurate WiiMote controls.
Ubisoft announced that Red Steel 2 could make use of the Wii MotionPlus at the beginning of May, but this is the first confirmation that the new add-on will be an essential requirement to play the game.
MotionPlus plugs in to the existing WiiMote and adds an extra set of motion sensors that allow for much finer, more precise motion capture. Red Steel 2 will hopefully take full advantage of these, and overcome the problem with the original game that could leave you wildly flailing your arm while your on-screen katana slashed in a seemingly random pattern.
Red Steel 2 takes a more sci-fi angle than its martial-artsy predecesor, putting you in the boots of “Swordsman”, in a “desert-bound high-tech metriplois”.
