The Microsoft Pink smartphone just got specced from an inside source. Is it the Zune phone? Can it topple the new iPhone? Read on to find out.

Microsoft strongly denied any of the June unveiling rumours for a Zune HD or Zune phone yesterday, but no sooner had it stamped out that whisper than another one burst out. ZDNet published what it claims are the specs for the Windows Mobile 7 Chassis 1, and so likely to be the hardware for the Microsoft Pink smartphone.

To meet the Windows Mobile 7 standards Redmond has laid down, the Microsoft Pink smartphone would have to run with a multitouch WVGA+ screen 3.5 inches in size or greater, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3MP or greater camera, a compass, accelerometer and 3.5mm audio jack.

Those specs aren’t exactly cutting edge, but the list mention that NVIDIA’s Tegra platform and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip meet the CPU requirements, meaning that a Microsoft Pink smartphone could pack powerful graphics, just like the Zune HD is believed to.

So, does that mean a Microsoft Pink smartphone will run new Zune software, just like a Zune HD? That doesn’t sound too far fetched to us. There are no more details on the Microsoft Pink smartphone just yet, but we’ll be watching the woodwork for any escaping news.
