The next Tony Hawk game will be revealed at E3, the world’s largest videogame trade show, taking place in June, in Los Angeles. Original Tony Hawk developers Neversoft have switched over to making Guitar Hero games and the new game is promised to be both a radical reboot of the series and “as close to real skating as you’ll ever come” according to Tony Hawk himself.

That said, what could the Tony Hawk series do to outskate, well, Skate? Electronic Arts’ skateboarding series utterly outclassed and out-innovated Tony Hawk in the last few games.

One hint from an Activision Blizzard spokesperson is that the game won’t be played with a “controller in your hands“. This has prompted widespread speculation that Tony Hawk’s new developers are planning some sort of board/accelerometer peripheral and/or use of the Wii Fit Balance board. But is this enough to rescue Tony Hawk, whose last few games have been frankly rubbish?
