Panasonic will launch an OLED flatscreen TV that’s 40 inches wide, and by next year no less. That’s just a tad bigger than the Sony XEL-1, so read on for the details.
Panasonic has just announced it’s partnering up with Japanese company Sumitomo Chemical to start cranking out OLED TV panels at sizes that don’t require squinting, with the first Panasonic OLED model to clock in at 37 inches and hit shops in 2010, with a 40-incher to follow within months.
To put it in perspective, the only OLED TV on the market at the moment, the dazzling Sony XEL-1, is just 11 inches wide, so if Panasonic can pull it off, this is a major jump in size. Sadly though, until OLED TV goes mainstream, expect a huge jump in price as well for a panel that’s not puny.
If a year seems too long a wait for a Panasonic OLED TV, the company’s Neo PDP tech and Z1 HDTV should help pass the time in comfort, so get all the info on them right here.
