The Viewty Smart is headed our way next month, and we are anxious to see if it is as tasty as it looks. GSM Arena managed to get hold of a pre-production model and found that – while it is pretty good, it is not exactly a proper smartphone.

The Viewty Smart – formerly the Viewty II, may turn out to have had a rather cheeky renaming. GSM Arena put a pre-production model of the new handset through its paces and, while they were impressed – claim that the phone is far from being a ‘smartphone’ as the term is generally understood.

“The Viewty 2 is a smart handset indeed but only design-wise,”  said GSM Arena “From the inside, it’s not a smartphone or anything, no matter how much we would have liked that. Instead it’s a regular full touch feature phone, but one with a really polished UI and top-notch imaging capabilities.”

The Viewty Smart runs LG’s S-Class 3D user interface. This animates icons and ‘desktop’ pages and lets you flick them around using the touch screen. The Viewty Smart’s implementation is described as ‘spectacular’.

Display and control is via a capacitive TFT screen and the phone has a decent 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and a unique ‘intelligent shot’ feature that picks the best shooting mode for the current conditions.
