Tired of your iPhone taking low-grade pics? Before you start saving your hard-earned for a brand new iPhone, hotly tipped to be packing a 3.2 megapixel camera, you might want to see what your old iPhone is really capable of. Inquisitive iPhone OS 3.0 testers have found that their iPhone 3Gs take better photos when running the updated software.

The chaps at iPhones.ru checked 30 different photos (all of the same cat, oddly) and found that the quality and clarity of photos taken under iPhone OS 3.0 was noticeably enhanced. Gizmodo tried the same thing in dark lighting and also found that the newer software revealed more detail in low brightness.

It looks like Apple is giving its iPhone image processing an overhaul and if these snaps are anything to go by, it’s already looking good. And it’ll mean original iPhone and iPhone 3G will get better pics, even when the newer handset comes along packing more megapixels and its fancy video recording. The show-off.
