A new Eee PC is in the works, packing an 11.6-inch screen, and it’s coming this month, says Asus head honcho Jerry Shen.

So, when is a netbook not a netbook? We’d say once it starts approaching 12 inches in size, but not Asus. It’s prepping an 11.6-inch laptop with Eee PC branding, and it’ll be out later this month according to the company’s president.

An 11.6-inch Eee PC is good news for touch typists who only need to type and surf on the fly, but it certainly blurs the boundaries between “netbooks” and notebooks (Back in the day, Apple’s PowerBook was a 12 incher, and it had an optical drive). But then, Samsung, Acer and even Packard Bell are already touting 12 and 11.6-inch numbers, so the move to a bigger Eee PC is hardly surprising.

Along with the Eee PC, Shen let slip that Asus was working on two ultra-thin notebooks, a 15.6-inch Asus XS15, and a 13.3-inch version, due out in July to bother the MSI X-Slim range.

There are no pricing details for the new Eee PC just yet, but with an unveiling just around the corner, cost is sure to follow soon.
