Sony’s let slip a new model of digital SLR (DSLR) camera through its very own support pages. The new Sony Alpha 330 is still a bit of a mystery, but seems to be a straight shot at video-shooting super snappers from the likes of Canon and Nikon.
Hiding within Sony’s digital camera support pages are references to the DSLR-A330. That’s the Alpha 330, in other words, and is still unanounced. What’s more, new 50mm f/1.8 and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lenses are also mentioned, pointing towards lens bundles, as well as body-only sales.
Sounds good so far, but Photoclub alpha has been speculating that the new Alpha 330 will be cheap too. “There is a possibility that these budget lenses are not SSM,” the fansite says, “but use a cheaper internal micromotor. It may also be fair to assume to the body could lack mechanical focus drive support.”
So, a cut-price Alpha 330, with special lens bundles to keep costs low and extra features? We reckon so, as do the chattering masses in photography forums across the web. Posters at the Dyxum photography forums are hoping for video abiliites too, to put the Alpha 330 on a par with the likes of the Nikon D5000 and Canon EOS 500D. As ever, we’ll keep you posted when Sony makes the Alpha 330 official.
