Microsoft may be about to reveal its rival vision of motion-sensing gaming to the Nintendo Wii. The rumour is that Microsoft will showcase a full-body sensing peripheral for its Xbox 360 console at E3, the world’s largest videogame trade show, in June, in Los Angeles.
Engadget has snarfed a supposed pic of the peripheral Microsoft hopes will rival the Nintendo Wii. Respected games-blog Kotaku has voiced doubt over the veracity of the picture, but has said independent sources have confirmed the detail of the story.
To whit: Microsoft has promised to “completely transform how people think about home entertainment” with its E3 showing in June. Engadget says that showing will include a Wii Sensor Bar-style peripheral that doesn’t need a controller held at the other end, instead sensing “full body and hand gesture” motion.
“You kick, punch, duck… with your body” it claims. It’s also rumoured that the Microsoft Xbox 360 bar will be sensitive enough to pick up “pinching, grabbing and scrolling” gestures, and will come with built in mic and camera. As well as allowing video conferencing, that means you can “clap” to buzz in on questions on “trivia games over the Internet”.
With Sony apparently also prepping a motion-sensing controller for launch at E3, this year’s Los Angeles trade bash looks set to be a very exciting show indeed.
