The new Amazon Kindle might be just a few months old (and not yet released in the UK), but already it seems Amazon has a new version. What’s more, the latest reports suggest it’ll launch within weeks, packing a monster screen for more comfortable reading.

According to the New York Times, “as early as this week, according to people briefed on the online retailer’s plans, Amazon will introduce a larger version of its Kindle wireless device tailored for displaying newspapers, magazines and perhaps textbooks.”

A larger screen would make sense for Amazon’s e-reader, since it already partners with newspapers to deliver fresh content over the air every morning.

The New York Times continues: “Some news organizations, including The New York Times, are expected to be involved in the introduction of the device, according to people briefed on the plans.”

Yes, you read that right. The New York Times seems to be citing itself as a source. Must be true then. We’ll keep you posted on the new Amazon Kindle, and whether it’ll end up coming to the UK.

I think that this kindle is the future ipod. There seems to be conflicting interests on whether or not this will be the answer to the failing newspaper industry. http://www.newsy.com/videos/will_new_kindle_dx_change_reading/ has arguments from both sides. Personally I’m torn. On one hand I love having the physical book. On the other, will all of the talk of going green and saving the environment, this would be a huge help.
