Red Steel 2 – the sequel to Wii slash ‘em up Red Steel has been announced by Ubisoft. The game will give layers much finer control of their gun and swordplay via the new MotionPlus controller add-on for the Nintendo Wii.
Red Steel had a good crack at the first-person action game and was one of the more distinctive titles in the Nintendo Wii’s launch line-up. Unfortunately, for a game that relied on you using the WiiMote and Nunchuk to control movement and slash enemies with a katana the game suffered from the slightly imprecise nature of the Wii’s motion sensors. It was pretty good, but could have been much better.
With Red Steel 2, Ubisoft hopes to address some of those problems by making use of Nintendo’s new MotionPlus add-on. The MotionPlus attaches to the WiiMote and adds more fine-grained sensors that make more precise movements possible in specially-written games.
Ubusoft claims that Red Steel 2 is “built from the ground up” with MotionPlus support but did not confirm that the game is only playable with the add-on. If it is, we would expect there to be some kind of bundle in the works, although as Red Steel 2 won’t be available until around six months after the MotionPlus launches in June, this may be a little late in the day.
