Archos has made its iPod nano-esque Archos 2 MP3 player official, sticking the 8GB version up on its UK site for a reasonable £39.99. And it comes in purple! We’d seen the white and black editions when the Archos 2 was leaked in early April, but the plum-coloured MP3 player is new to us – and a nice change from the norm.

Spec-wise the Archos 2 has a 1.8-inch 128×160 colour screen, Micro-SDHC card slot for expanding storage further, and the ability to display photos (JPEG) and movies (AVI, conversion needed) as well as play MP3 and WMA music files. There’s a microphone and voice recording software built-in too.

A 16GB version also appears to be on the way, although it’s not up at the Archos web store at the time of writing so we don’t know the price. If we had to guess we’d say it’ll come in at around the £60 mark.

Out now | From £39.99 | Archos
