Acer is working on several devices running the Android operating system, one of which will be an Android smartphone that the company will launch later this year.
Acer execs have been dropping hints that the company is looking into the Android operating system for a while now, but nothing has ever been officially confirmed. Finally, Acer president and CEO Gianfranco Lanci has admitted that the company is elbow deep in Android and has a number of devices in the works.
The Acer boss confessed all at Acer’s first-quarter investor’s conference in Taipei last week. “We are testing Android on a lot of different solutions,” said Lanci, “We are working on an Android solution for the smartphone.”
Yes, the rumoured Acer A1 smartphone looks like it will come to fruition, giving Acer its first non-Windows Mobile smartphone. No specifications were discussed, but with any luck that launch date rumour of September was on the money.
