With the new Star Trek movie about to hit cinemas, it’s only right that a ton of tie-in gadgets start to beam down to the surface of Earth. First up is the Nokia 5800 Star Trek Edition, a futuristic re-imagining of the XpressMusic touchscreen mobile.
While we were hoping for a built-in holodeck projector, the actual list of new features on the Nokia 5800 Star Trek Edition is a little more basic. There are four animated screensavers, three wallpapers, eight ringtones (including “Phazer Shot” and “Kelvin Communicator”) and a “special Phazer application”.
We’d love it if this were an actual phazer, but it’s more likely a button that makes a phazer-like noise. Ho-hum.
There are also three colour finishes – blue, red and black/silver – but otherwise the Nokia 5800 Star Trek Edition is the same as the regular Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. So that means a nice touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera and A-GPS.
The Nokia 5800 Star Trek Edition is exclusive to Phones4U, and available on a £25 per month contract with Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile or O2.
