Left 4 Dead players: set your Steam clients and Xbox 360s to update. The first set of Left 4 Dead downloadable content has now launched. The free Survival Pack sports a two new versus campaigns, a brand new game mode, including 16 new maps, leaderboards and seven new achievements. And did we mention it’s free? Read on 4 more details.
The new Left 4 Dead Versus mode campaigns are updates to the Dead Air and Death Toll main campaigns. For competitive players, that’s a dramatic increase in the number of places to test your twisted undead skills against the immense firepower of the four human survivors.
If you prefer your special zombies to be of the more brainless, AI-controlled variety, then Survival mode is the one for you. Initially, we were disappointed that Valve wasn’t just releasing brand new full campaign maps, but it looks like the Left 4 Dead team are upping the challenge considerably.
“Survival Mode draws on the planning and communication aspects of a successful Finale or Crescendo event, while taking it to another level,” explains the offical Left 4 Dead blog. And what kind of ‘level’ is that? “The number of zombies killed in a single round often outnumbers an entire campaign,” it says. Oh.
Teams will be able to compare their scores on the 16 new maps (well, not new exactly, but ones drawn from the main campaign levels) using a new set of Leaderboards.
The patch also comes with a host of bug fixes and tweaks. You can read the full details here.
