The BilliardBots are coming to turn games on the green baize upside down! Snap your pool cues and throw them away: these robots do all the pocketing for you.

Let’s face it: for all the sparks and flamethrowers, Robot Wars was pretty naff, and not just because of Craig Charles and his trenchcoat. Here’s a robot battle we can get behind though: BilliardBots.

Designed by engineer Carl Seguin, the BilliardBots are two little blighters that whizz around on a snooker, billiards or pool table doing all the hard work for you. All you have to do is control direction and speed with a modded PlayStation controller lashed up to a laptop.

You can play with the BilliardBots in two ways: either using the scoop at the front to carry balls into the pockets (Think remote controlled Hungry Hippos and you’re not far off), or with the bumpers on the back for more frantic games – you don’t take turns, naturally.

We don’t know when we’ll see BilliardBots tearing it up and down pool halls across the country, but Seguin has applied for a patent on the BilliardBots, so we’ve got several fingers that crossed commercial models make it to market sometime soon.
