Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray priced and UK bound

UPDATE: The Sony BDP-S360 will ship in early July, Sony just confirmed to us.

The Sony BDP-S360 budget upscaling Blu-ray player we caught sight of last month is heading to the UK, with a pricetag visible in tow. Read on for the cost, photos and details.

For an entry level Blu-ray player, the Sony BDP-S360 packs some serious specs: 7.1 surround sound through Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD, 1080p visuals, 24p cinema playback and Precision Cinema HD Upscale technology to boost your soggy DVD visuals all the way to full HD. The Sony BDP-S360 is also BD-Live friendly to quench your interactive feature thirst.

The Sony BDP-S360 should retail on the Sony Style website for around £230 when it ships. Unfortunately there’s no sign of the Wi-Fi enabled Sony BDP-S560 to go with it, but Sony hasn’t ruled out a UK release so don’t get too down: take a peek at the Sony BDP-S360 photos in the gallery instead!

Errm, why would you get one of these, when you can get a PS3 for the same money? (Argos are selling 40GB PS3s for £220).

The PS3 does all that about, with better upscaling, media centre capabilities, gaming, web browing and considerably faster BD-J execution times.

    Freeman,

That’s because standalone blu-ray players are much better in quality over PS3 for blu-ray. There are many who are not bothered by the gaming capabilities of a PS3. 2 years ago, by=uying a PS3 over a standalone blu-ray player made sense, but not anymore, as the quality have exceeded PS3 & the cost is cheaper. Remember that the MRP of the S360 is £230, but you will get this at around £150 within 2 months.
